Florida hurricane insurance and property taxes

Since Florida’s disastrous 2004-2005 hurricane season, the cost of hurricane insurance and the increase in property taxes from high assessed housing values has sent Florida real estate cost of ownership through the roof. The State of Florida attempted to rein in hurricane insurance expenses by creating its own insurance company. The resulting company, Citizens Insurance, has been a failure and the recent legislation to bring down taxes is ineffective.
