New laws protecting victims, including 3 year temporary residency, is a good example of recent changes in the law.
As for a regional action, closing the borders and targeting national and international traffickers is essential to successfully stop the flow of victims.
On a larger scale, the U.N. should play an important role. Some countries involved with human trafficking are neglecting the issue and not considering it a major problem. With new international legislation, those countries would be forced to adopt more extreme measures to monitor and combat human traffic activities. If they fail to compromise, the U.N. could impose economic sanctions just like the ones for Iraq.
It is necessary to create a new package of international laws that will result in increased penalties for trafficking and wider protection of victims. These international laws will over-ride less strict regional laws.
